Portuguese international Margarida Maia has officially joined Sporting, the club announced this Saturday. The 29-year-old outside hitter links up with the squad led by new coach Tiago Sineiro, with a clear ambition to clinch titles.
“I am truly happy with this decision and I hope to significantly help the club achieve major titles in the future,” she told Sporting's media outlets.
The new Lioness described herself as an athlete who values hard work. “I am someone who strongly believes in hard work, resilience, and a spirit of sacrifice. I think these are the fundamental pillars to reach a high level,” she stated, promising to share these values with her teammates for collective growth.
On the court, she characterizes herself as a team player. “I am a player who plays very much for the team. I always try my best to help my teammates, convey calmness, security, and a strong will to win,” she affirmed, calling her arrival at Sporting “an honor and a privilege.”
The objectives for this new chapter in the career of the athlete, who has previously played for Vitória SC, Castelo da Maia GC, and SC Braga, where she arrives from, are ambitious: “To win and win. One of the main goals is to be at the top of volleyball, to win the Championship, the Cup, everything we set out to achieve this season.”
