De Gea, Smalling win big at end of season awards ceremony
The Spaniard becomes only the third United player to win the award three times in a row.
“It's an honour to receive this award again. I want to say thank you to everyone - we have some of the best fans in the world.”
Despite several reports hinting that he will not around next season, United coach Louis van Gaal was in high spirit, calling himself one of the best managers in the world.
“I’m a coach, a manager who would rather have some authority but every day the players can read it, what do you think about my authority as well? What do you think about the way they want to follow my advice when the coach is shown like a nobody? He said.
“And I am not what the media is writing because I am very arrogant, because I am one of the best managers in the world.”
Anthony Martial won the award for Goal of the Season with his debut goal for United that game against rivals, Liverpool.
Breakout star Marcus Rashford won the Under 18s Player of the Year award while Cameron Borthwick-Jackson took the gong for Under 21s.
