Manchester United has reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of defensive midfielder Andrey Santos, "The Athletic" exclusively reports. The Red Devils have agreed with the Blues on a transfer fee of £48 million, plus an additional £2 million in bonuses. Chelsea will also retain a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer of the player. This news comes as a surprise, given that interest from Old Trafford in the player only emerged a few days ago. Andrey Santos has been part of Chelsea since 2023, when the Blues paid Vasco da Gama €12.5 million for his services. In subsequent seasons, he was loaned out to Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg. Last season, he was part of Chelsea's squad, recording 3 goals and 4 assists in 43 appearances. The 22-year-old midfielder faced significant competition from Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez in the midfield and struggled for consistent playing time.

Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, strengthening the midfield has been identified as a top priority. Interestingly, another Brazilian, Ederson from Atalanta, who was part of the Seleção squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers just days ago, is also considered a sure new signing for the Red Devils. The player himself confirmed that only formalities remain before the deal is finalized. Both Brazilian midfielders are expected to undergo medical examinations and sign their contracts in the coming days. According to many media outlets and analysts in England, Manchester United does not intend to stop there and may seek a third reinforcement in that area.
