The Madeira Islands Open has been reduced to 54 holes after the opening round was suspended due to strong winds.

Gusts of up to 47mph meant the golf ball was moving on the green throughout the day and prevented play from commencing.

Round one of the European Tour event - reduced due to 36 holes last year due to inclement weather - will now tee off on Friday.
