Mackenzie Dern successfully defended her strawweight title, defeating Gillian Robertson in the co-main event of UFC 330.
Takedowns and submission attempts were key to Dern's victory, as she came close to finishing the fight on several occasions. For the majority of the bout, however, she maintained control, showcasing her superior grappling skills. Robertson struggled to mount any significant offense until the final round, and even then, she primarily held ground control without inflicting serious damage on Dern.
At the fight's conclusion, the judges scored the contest 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in favor of Dern, who secured a unanimous decision victory.
“I’m super happy,” Dern stated after her win. “In my first title fight, I was taken down many times, so I worked on my wrestling. I’m still champion. I definitely wanted to make her tap, that was the goal. I try to get a submission in every one of my fights. I wish I had done more damage to set up the submissions.”
With this successful title defense, Dern now looks ahead to her next challenge, with former champion Zhang Weili being the most desired opponent if she decides to compete again in the 115-pound division.
