Liverpool has unveiled images of the permanent memorial to be erected at Anfield in honor of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva. The two tragically passed away in a road accident last July.
The memorial is titled “Forever 20,” a nod to the number Diogo wore for Liverpool, which was retired after the Portuguese forward's death. The sculpture itself depicts the outline of a heart, a gesture the attacker often made with his hands when celebrating goals. Incorporated into the design are the numbers “20” and “30,” visible from different angles (André Silva wore jersey number 30).
The pedestal will also feature an engraved refrain from the well-known song dedicated to Diogo Jota, which Liverpool fans continue to sing in his memory during the 20th minute of every match.
Following a unique recycling process, many of the items left by fans at Anfield after Jota's passing will be embedded into the stone pedestal. It will also include references to Diogo's personal life, with a gamepad placed on the pedestal, symbolizing another great passion of the Portuguese star.
