Tyrese Maxey led the way with 32 points, while Joel Embiid added 24. Jaylen Brown chipped in with 21 points.

James recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds in the largest comeback of his career, capping a game the Sixers will be hard-pressed to top this season.

Philadelphia has now kicked off the campaign with consecutive marquee wins over the reigning champion Knicks and the Eastern Conference finalist Cavaliers.

The Sixers struggled mightily in the first half, missing 11 of 15 attempts from beyond the arc and committing 14 turnovers (after conceding just 12 all game against the Knicks), drawing loud boos from the packed home arena late in the second quarter.

However, the squad refused to go down without a fight. Tempers flared in the fourth quarter when Maxey and former teammate James Harden went face-to-face in a heated confrontation before being separated.

Maxey spearheaded a relentless defensive effort, sparking a pivotal 15-0 fourth-quarter surge that catapulted the Sixers into the lead and left the Cavaliers reeling.

Donovan Mitchell paced the Cavs with 32 points in their season opener,

pouring in 22 of them in the first half as Cleveland surged to a 29-point advantage. That cushion evaporated when Embiid strung together seven straight fourth-quarter points to cut the deficit to 96-95, paving the way for Jaylen Brown to put the finishing touches on an unforgettable home victory.
