How to make your followers do what you want
Every leader understands that it is a tough task to get people to fall in line and do what they are supposed to, or deliver on a task.
No matter how hard it may seem, the truth is that you need people, as a leader to help you fulfil your vision.
A leader without followers is a scarecrow. They always stand alone.
Great leaders understand that it is their duty to develop and harness the potentials of the people around them.
Your followers might go along with you because they have to, not because they want to.
Have you asked yourself, what if they are given an option not to follow me, will they still choose to come with me?
One common factor in the lives of the successful leaders I have studied is the application of what I call the 3H method.
This method is simple and it will make your followers want to be around you.
To get your followers to do what you want, you have to know to:
1. Use the Leader’s HEAD: As a leader, your ability to study and understand your people is key to the success of your team or organisation. Make a conscious effort to study what makes them tick, understand their mood and pay attention to them when they talk and play.
If you understand people, you will know how to galvanise their strengths and weaknesses to achieve the organisation’s goal.
2. Use the Leader’s HAND: As a leader, it is your duty is to help people grow. Great leaders make a conscious effort to ensure that the lives of those around them are improved.
You can help with your time, words and resources.
3. Use the Leader’s HEART: People do not care how much you know. They want to know how much you care. Show genuine love to your followers.
Be passionate about their success. This emotional intelligence comes into play. It is a good tool for every leader.
If you love your team members genuinely, their birthdays and special occasions should not escape your mind. Celebrate with them and look out for their good always.
Attack the flaw and not the person.
Over the years, I have led teams at various levels and I have seen this 3H method work.
