This time around the concert held at the green lawn of the Federal Palace Hotel, Ikoyi. The sitting was banquet style, and the guests were the top gentlemen and ladies of the Lagos social circle attended.

Ayo Awosika an American of Nigerian heritage entranced the audience with her sharp soulful voice as her fingers danced around the keys on her keyboard. Her presence was heavy but gentle as she sang a few of her compositions.

After her impromptu encore, Loopy Records act Ruby Gyang came up. She started off with Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie'. After the impressive cover, she sang her own singles and re-affirmed the fact that she is one of the best female vocalists in the country.

The big star of the night was undoubtedly Seun Kuti and his band The Egypt '80. Seun's performance at the Lagos Jazz Series was his first performance since last year. Ironically, his last performance in Nigeria before his world tour was at the 2013 edition of the Lagos jazz Series.

A lot has been said about Seun Kuti's potential as an Afrobeat act. His performance yesterday however left no one in doubt that he is beginning to master the beautiful but complex genre of music called Afrobeat. With a rich and pulsating set Seun Kuti showed why he is his own man. After an entertaining set, Seun Kuti raised his two fists in the air just like his father did in his days.
