Koeman: This is a great victory and certainly a great result

Ronald Koeman identified shortcomings in the Netherlands' performance, despite the "Oranje" securing a dominant 5-1 victory over Sweden in the second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

"We really wanted to achieve our first success in the tournament. There was some pressure on us because we didn't want everything to come down to the final round. We played very well in a number of situations. Even with a 5-1 scoreline, it's clear that it takes us too long to recognize changes in the opponent's game and formation when they start playing differently. This is a great victory and certainly a great result. There were enough moments where we can say that things could have been done better," Koeman stated after the match.

Striker Brian Brobbey, who netted two goals within the first 17 minutes against the Scandinavians, has emerged as one of the key players for the Netherlands in the tournament so far.

"It was a great start to the match and gives us even more confidence," Koeman added.

In their third group stage fixture, the Netherlands will face Tunisia on June 26th in Kansas City. The "Oranje" currently sit on 4 points after their second match of the 2026 World Cup.
