Following the resignation of national coach Julian Nagelsmann and the departure of German Football Association (DFB) CEO Andreas Rettig at the end of the year, the question remains regarding the future of national team sporting director Rudi Völler.

The legend requested time to reflect on his future after last Thursday's summit in German football in Frankfurt, despite having an active contract until 2028.

Jürgen Klopp, the anticipated new national team coach, has already had a phone conversation with Völler. During the call, Klopp reportedly assured Rudi that he would be delighted for him to remain in his position and expressed his desire to work together.

German football officials, led by President Bernd Neuendorf and Hans-Joachim Watzke, have already expressed their desire for Völler to continue his collaboration.

Earlier, Klopp had emphasized: "Important discussions are taking place because the position of national coach alone will not change or solve the problems of German football. And accordingly, this process is starting now." Klopp is aware that he cannot single-handedly steer German football back to success. Völler is expected to be a crucial cornerstone in the rebuilding process.

This indicates a strong likelihood of Rudi Völler staying on. A survey by "Insa," commissioned by "Bild," showed that the majority of respondents support his retention. A decision is expected to be announced this afternoon.

The 2028 European Championship in England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland would be Völler's final tournament. The sporting director has already made it clear that he will definitively retire afterward.

After the premature parting with Julian Nagelsmann (38) as coach following a dismal World Cup performance, the DFB sought contact with their desired successor – Klopp. The former Liverpool manager has signaled his readiness to take on the role, and his appointment is considered a certainty.
