Kia Motors has announced the release date for it's first fully autonomous (self-driving) car.

While unveiling the Drive Wise, a car with autonomous-driving abilities, the Japanese carmaker revealed 2030 as the launch date for it's first self-driving car.

"Engineered to improve safety for all road users, Drive Wise will enable Kia to introduce intelligent safety technologies to its future model range, helping to eliminate potential dangers — and, for many, the boredom — of driving, while changing the ways in which owners interact with their vehicles," a statement form Kia said.

Motorauthority reports that semi-autonomous features like automatic parking mode, traffic jam assistant and a highway driving mode, will be available in Kia models by 2020.

V2X, a "vehicle-to-everything" communications system, is the final step, which will be ready by 2030.

Concerning this technology works, Kia said, it will "perceive the surrounding environment and all relevant obstacles, as a human driver does."

This is done with a network of sensors, radar, light detection and cameras.

So far, Nevada has granted the carmaker a special license to test it's self-driving cars.
