Fatai represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009 and has not being called up to the national team since then.

He has also featured for Nigeria at the U-23 level, making the squad in a London 2012 Olympics qualifying game against Tanzania.

The forward moved to Romania in 2007 after signing for FC Farul Constanta from JUTH in Nigeria.

He moved to Astra Giurgiu three years later before signing for Sparta Prague in Czech Republic.

According to his agent, he has now accepted to swap nationality and could represent Romania in Euro 2016.

"Fatai  is close to becoming a Romania national team player," his agent Odusanya Babatunde Yusuf told Complete Sports.

"We are almost through with the paper work and all things being equal, he should feature for Romania at the European Championship this summer.

"He was looking forward to playing for the Super Eagles, but as things stand now, it's not certain the invitation will come any time soon.”
