JumiaPay is a third party online payment solution that Jumia says it will provide a safer, faster and more convenient online payment experience.
Jumia's plan is to make JumiaPay available in all the African countries that it currently operates, all 23 of them.
Essentially, JumiaPay will offer more than just e-commerce payments. Jumia says the platform will also be used to pay utility bills and airtime top-ups.
"Jumia Pay has a very simple yet crucial objective: go even further in providing a safe, a secure and a convenient shopping experience to our customers, building trust along the way between us, our thousands of sellers and our millions of customers. We are very proud to be able to offer this new service to our customers and participate in building financial inclusion in Africa to unbanked or underbanked populations," said Jeremy Hodara, Co-CEO of Jumia.
Nigeria, however, will be the first country where JumiaPay will be available and it is expected to become available in Jumia's other markets across Africa later this year.
Jumia recently absorbed all of the companies under the AIG company into a unified Jumia brand name that had all those company also rebranding into Jumia sub-companies.
