On that same day, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be in France for a friendly against Mali. Four days later on Wednesday, June 1, Nigeria will also play Luxembourg in a friendly.

Due to the clash in schedule, a host of Super Eagles players will be missing Yobo’s testimonial, but two players who were teammates with the former defender has been released by the NFF.

“The NFF leadership has decided that Mikel (Obi) and (Ahmed) Musa should be excused from the two friendly matches in Europe so that they can honour Joseph Yobo, who is having his testimonial game on the same Friday that we are playing Mali in Rouen, France,” NFF General  Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi confirmed to federation’s official website.

“The two players have been communicated accordingly,” he further revealed.

The decision of the NFF to fix a friendly game on the same day as Yobo’s testimonial did not sit well with former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike.

Emenike believes that the schedule clash is disrespectful to former Super Eagles captain, Yobo.

“Yobo deserves the honour and everybody has to turn up to celebrate him, but it’s unfortunate that it’s the NFF who are now looking like the obstacle to this testimonial,” the West Ham striker told African Football.
