After months of speculations, Mourinho was announced as the new Manchester United coach replacing Louis van Gaal who was sacked just after winning the FA Cup.

Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick has also been offered a one-year deal to remain in his squad.

Mourinho according to , met Charlton on the edge of the Carrington car park and the pair greeted each other warmly.

Charlton according to reports, had wanted club hero, Ryan Giggs to take over from Van Gaal instead of Mourinho.
