Jokic Struggles From the Field as Adelman Comes to His Defense: Others Need to Step Up!

Denver opened their new NBA campaign with a tough defeat against Oklahoma City. Coach David Adelman was far from pleased with the outcome, but leaped to the defense of Nikola Jokic.

The Nuggets suffered a 96-84 defeat at the hands of the Thunder.

Nikola Jokic struggled to find his rhythm against a relentless opposing defense. The Serbian center was limited to just 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting from the field.

Jamal Murray was equally cold, finishing with only six points on 2-of-field-goal shooting.

"Sometimes you just have a bad shooting night, and guys start trying to do it on their own instead of playing through the pass, which leads to mistakes," Adelman analyzed in the postgame press conference.

"Other guys have to step up. If teams are throwing so many bodies at them with all the attention they draw, the rest of the team has to take responsibility and make shots."

He then touched on what ultimately decided the outcome.

"When it comes to trust, it doesn't matter who is on the court and who is off. You have to let guys be who they are. In the NBA, and especially against this team, the open player has to get the ball and take the shot. If you drive instead, you're driving right into their defense, and they are the best defense in the league. Still, we'll keep working on it. I thought the guys competed and played extremely hard, we just didn't play well enough."

The Nuggets will have a chance to bounce back early Sunday morning when they face the New Orleans Pelicans.
