After the 2-1 win away at Zambia in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, reports emerged that Mikel Obi had insisted that Super Eagles players be paid their bonuses in dollars.
The 29-year-old through the Super Eagles official Twitter handle denied granting any interview where he said that.

“Captain @mikel_john_obi has denied granting any interview where he insisted the team be paid their win bonuses & camp allowances in dollars,” the Tweet reads.
“I never granted any such interview & the team has not made that kind of demand at any time to the football federation.”
Meanwhile, the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has confirmed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have paid the match bonuses of the Tanzania game to players and officials.
