Midfielder says he is fighting for his place in Chelsea

Mikel Obi is yet to make an appearance this season for Chelsea since he returned from Rio 2016 Olympic Games where he won bronze with Nigeria’s U-23 football side.

The 29-year-old last featured for Chelsea in their 8-0 win over Atus Ferlachin a pre-season friendly in Austria where he scored.

He was left out of the match-day squad as Chelsea beat on Sunday, October 23.

Reacting to questions of thousands of his fans why he has not been involved in the team, the midfielder took to Twitter to reveal that he is fighting hard for his place.

"Fighting every day for my place, like all the guys are. Focus, work hard" the Super Eagles captain wrote on his Twitter.

He also praised his teammates for their emphatic victory over Jose Mourinho’s United.

"Well done to the boys yesterday, amazing performance, result and atmosphere," Mikel added.

Pedro, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante were on the scoresheet in Chelsea’s win.
