The Cincinnati Masters 1000 tournament has lost its top two ranked players after Jannik Sinner announced his withdrawal on Sunday. The world number one joins Carlos Alcaraz, who also will not be competing.
The Italian tennis star's decision stems from issues with his right knee. "After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I must withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters 1000 tournament," Sinner communicated via his social media channels.
Sinner elaborated on the nature of the problem: "My right knee has been bothering me, and although we've worked intensely with my medical team, I have to accept that I'm not yet ready to compete."
Sinner, who was the Cincinnati champion in 2024, expressed his deep disappointment at not being able to play, but is already looking ahead to the final Grand Slam of the season. "Now I'm focused on preparing for the US Open," he concluded, referring to the tournament that kicks off on August 30th in New York.
Sinner's absence adds to that of Carlos Alcaraz, who continues to recover from a wrist injury that has kept him out of competition since April. The last time the Italian competed was at Wimbledon, where he defeated Zverev in the final to claim his fifth Grand Slam. In early 2026, Sinner won his first five ATP Masters 1000 titles, culminating in Rome, where he equaled Novak Djokovic as only the second player to complete the career Golden Masters.
