Popular American gospel singer, James Fortune may be singing to only inmates soon after he was arrested for assaulting a member of his family.
Fortune a Grammy award nominee is said to have his reputation on the line over the bizarre incident which happened in public.
According to MyFoxHouston, the singer was arrested and released on $20,000 bond after he beat up a family member.
Reports say this This is not the first time that Fortune has gotten in trouble with the law. Back in 2001, he was accused of abusing his 4-year old stepson by putting him in scalding hot water. A civil lawsuit was filed against him for the incident in 2012.
Fortune appears to be having a strong music career, despite his legal troubles. In 2012, he was nominated for two Grammy awards for Best Gospel Album of the Year and Best Gospel Song of Year. In 2013, he became a radio show host on 1190 AM WLIB.
Fortune released this statement about the latest incident:
“I am truly sorry for the negative attention this situation has brought my wife, family, friends and business partners. Because it is a pending legal matter, I cannot comment on what has been reported. However, I understand the seriousness of this matter and ask that you respect the privacy of my family as we address this together.”
