The Norwegian league claimed the top spot for intensity, followed by the Swiss championship, with the Eredivisie (Netherlands) completing the podium.

Among Europe's 'big five' leagues – English, Italian, Spanish, German, and French – the Premier League was the first to appear, ranking sixth.

Ahead of the English top flight were the Danish league (fourth) and the Swedish league (fifth), highlighting the strong Nordic presence on this list.

Ligue 1 (France) secured seventh place, followed by the Belgian, German, and Scottish leagues, rounding out the top 10.

This means that of the Old Continent's five major leagues, Spain's La Liga – the heart of the reigning world champions' football – and Italy's Serie A are the only ones absent from the "most intense" rankings.

The CIES report clarifies that this ranking is based on sprints exceeding 20 km/h per player for every 90 minutes of play.
