Hager also adds that his wife had, prior to his dastardly action, revealed that she wanted to die, but had never actually asked him to end her life.

The elderly man also said he could no longer afford to buy Carolyn's medication and had been considering ending his wife's life for some days.

A sheriff’s deputy tells TC Palm that Hager had shown remorse, adding that he “was very clear that he was out of options in his mind.”

Hager and his wife described as avid gardeners by one of their neighbours, had been married for over 50 years.
