Seven prison inmates took part in the June 2015 session of the General Certificate of Education Examination (GCE) which started on Monday.
The got seven prisoner-candidates, from the Buea Central Prison, sat for the examinations alongside regular pupils of the Government High School Bokwaongo centre.
They were allowed to write like every other candidate, though accompanied by some warders who remained watchful.
One of the prisoners, Tita Gilbert, told the Cameroon Tribune that he prepared well for the examination.
"I prayed that the same God who has given us the knowledge to write will be with us all through the exams," Gilbert said.
"I never faced any major challenge in preparing for the examinations. I prepared well and I am confident I will make it."
The examination has subjects at both the Ordinary and Advanced Levels.
Reports say no hitches were recorded.
