The Borno government is making plans to construct a state university, Channels reports.

A 3.4billion naira contract was reportedly awarded for its establishment.

According to the governor of the state, Kashim Shettima the creation of the institution is necessary to help get the state out of the educational backwardness it has suffered over the years.

He expressed that the Boko Haram terrorism menace is caused by the youths having limited or no access to education.

An implementation committee with members extracted from the University of Maiduguri and other institutions of higher learning in the state are already nurturing the project.

The committee head, Professor Abubakar Mustapha lamented the fact that students on Borno state find it difficult to favourably compete with other candidates when it comes to fulfilling admission requirements.

Equipping the state university and obtaining accreditation from the National University Commission is part of the Terms of Reference of the committee.
