Rep-elect's mother kidnapped

Aged mother of the House of Representatives-elect for Buruku Federal Constituency in Benue State, Orkey Jev has been abducted by unknown assailants.

The woman was said to have been kidnapped from her family house at Mbaya, Tombo, Buruku Local Government Area of the state, on the evening of Wednesday, April 21.

According to an eyewitness, who spoke to Punch, the gunmen drove in a red Toyota car through Tse-Kucha in Gboko Local Government Area after dismantling a roadblock mounted by vigilante group in the area.

He said before the attackers escaped, they exchanged gunshots with the police at a checkpoint.

The Rep-elect who confirmed the incident said no ransom has been demanded yet, stressing that his mother’s whereabouts is still unknown.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Austin Ezeani, also confirmed the abduction, noting that police is making efforts to rescue the victim.
