Lagos CAN adopt Leke Pitan for governorship

The Lagos Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Saturday, November 22 adopted Dr Leke Pitan as its candidate for the 2015 governorship election in the state.

The association adopted Pitan after he honoured a debate organised by the association for the Christian aspirants in the state. He was the only aspirant who honoured the association’s invitation.

At the event which was held at the Dr. Akinola Maja Memorial Gospel Baptist Church, Lagos, the Vice Chairman of Lagos State CAN, Reverend S.T.V Adegbite revealed that while the aspirants were invited properly by writing and were also informed by phone calls, only Pitan made it.

Adegbite also added that Dr. Leke Pitan presence at the debate speaks volume of the type of man he is. “It is unfortunate that only Dr Pitan showed up at the debate. But we are happy that we have seen a good man to choose as our candidate,” Adegbite said.

“The Christian community had over slept all this while and have therefore not taken a deeper interest in the political process in the state, but has now decided to take more than a cursory in the profile and ‘Christianic’ credentials of whosoever will govern the state from now,” Adegbite added.

At the event which attracted a very huge crowd- all five blocks that make up CAN were fully represented- Pitan address the gathering, stating his agenda for the state, since there was no one to debate with.

Dr. Leke Pitan who is a one time Commissioner for Health is vying for the position of Lagos State Governor under the APC platform. He however has the party's primary election to scale first.
