Rolando “Rolly” Romero claims he was a victim of boxing machinations in his loss to Teofimo Lopez.

Following his unanimous decision defeat over the weekend, Romero was terse in his post-fight interview with Chris Mannix in the ring, even demonstratively walking off. However, he did appear at the subsequent press conference, where he expressed bewilderment at the judges' scorecards, convinced he had clearly and decisively won the bout.

"Look at my face. Was I hit with two clean shots the entire fight?" Romero stated. "If that's enough to beat the champion, then that's enough. I hurt him several times. They owe me a rematch, they definitely owe me a rematch. And yes, congratulations to Teofimo. He didn't hurt me at any point. He was hurt several times during the fight. Every time I landed a punch, it found its target. Lopez couldn't land anything clean against me, and that was obvious," he added.

Rolly was subsequently questioned about Teo's persistent body shots, which had left visible redness on his ribs.

"He didn't land a single one of them. They were blocked with an elbow... Where's the red?" Romero asked, as he lifted his shirt to show that the redness had faded, despite visible abrasions. "He didn't land a single punch. You all clearly saw that he couldn't land a single punch."

Romero was later asked if he had any regrets about his performance in the ring.

"When someone else does this, they call it a masterclass. When I do it, everything is clear, right? It's all politics."

When asked if he could have done more in the final rounds to secure a better chance on the scorecards, Rolly replied:

"Of course, I could have pressed him more. Anyone could. But championship fights like this are always contested, especially between two boxers of such a high level. However, he was hurt several times. One of the punches, frankly, should have been counted as a knockdown, but you know how it is. He survived, he knows how to survive. But I hit him clean so many times and hurt him. Some of those rounds were definitely 10-8."
