Three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten believes it would be foolish to write off Rafael Nadal ahead of the Spaniard's return to Roland Garros.

Nadal has enjoyed remarkable success at the French Open, winning the tournament on nine occasions either side of his solitary defeat at the event, against Robin Soderling in 2009.

However, after struggling for form and fitness the Spaniard is seeded sixth this year and faces a potential quarter-final tie against world number one Djokovic - whose own performances in 2015 have been largely outstanding.

Asked whether Nadal can once again triumph at Roland Garros, Kuerten told Perform: "No doubt. He has won nine times and why can't he win the for the 10th time?

"Djokovic has been playing great tennis this year, he seems to be an unbeatable player.

"However, Rafa has done a lot over the years and I would say that everything is possible for him. We must believe in him.

"I hope he can get that great level again because I did miss watching Nadal playing his best tennis. he's an attractive guy for the sport, a great competitor.

"For me, Djokovic is playing better nowadays. However, it's not everything that counts.

"Nadal's history shows us that it's possible. Last year it was a big chance for Djokovic to claim it [the French Open] for the first time but Nadal didn't let him win the tournament. They are the top two that can win over there."

Djokovic is seeking to complete a career Grand Slam, having already claimed five Australian Open crowns, two Wimbledon titles and a solitary US Open success.

"I think it's not fair if he doesn't win the Grand Slam," added Kuerten.

"He deserves it a lot. Nowadays he doesn't have this title because of Nadal. If he would have played in another time for sure he could have won it already.

"There are many people supporting him as well because he has played so good, at such a good level.

"I think that's going to happen in the next three years - he's going to win Roland Garros - no doubt."
