Sweden's national team coach, Graham Potter, explained the reasons behind their 3-0 loss to France and their elimination from the 2026 World Cup Round of 16.
“We faced a truly strong opponent. Ultimately, the better team won, there’s no doubt about that. Of course, anything is possible in football, and they can also have off-days, but I wish France all the best,” Potter stated.
“Tonight, we needed to play a perfect game, and even then, I’m not sure it would have been enough, because the opponent’s level was exceptionally high. If we compare the squads, we are a young, developing team, and I hope many great moments lie ahead for us,” he added.
“We are deeply disappointed to be leaving the tournament. We didn't expect to be heading home and wanted more. I am proud of my team. For many of the players, this was their debut tournament. We are not yet at the level of our opponents. That is the reality. We gave our best, and in the first half, we performed very well,” the English specialist concluded.
