'Ko Lane' street to be named after Lydia Ko

World number two Lydia Ko has done a lot for an 18-year-old, and is now about to have her name added to a street sign.

Lydia Ko is set to become immortalised at just age 18, with a street named after her in Auckland.

Ko Lane will be created in Golflands, East Auckland, where streets such as Hagen Close, Faldo Drive, Els Close and Tiger Drive exist.

New Zealand Golf spokesman George Harper said he hoped the landmark would inspire the teenager to new heights, having already become the youngest world number one when rising to the top of the rankings at age 17 in January.

"[It's] good thinking to get in early on the street sign before she starts winning many more tournaments and hopefully her first major, starting with this weekend at the British Open," Harper said, via stuff.co.nz.

And Harper and NZ Golf would be pleased with Ko's start, the New Zealander sitting tied for second after Thursday's first round - one shot behind leader Kim Hyo-joo.

Strangely, the feat is not a new one to Ko - she had Main Street temporarily re-named Lydia Ko Drive in her honour at the LPGA Tour's Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio earlier in July.
