Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is uncertain about his future, stating after the team's season concluded that he needs time to decide whether to continue leading the squad next NBA season.
“Maybe I will, maybe I won’t,” Kerr commented after the Warriors’ loss in Phoenix, which eliminated them from the play-in tournament and marked their fourth missed playoffs in the last seven seasons.
In the final moments of the game against Phoenix, he embraced Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, the team's two leaders, seemingly whispering “thank you.”
Kerr did not disclose what he said at that moment.
“That’s none of your business,” he said with a smile.
The 60-year-old Kerr just completed his 12th season with the Warriors. He holds a 604-353 record during this tenure, guiding Golden State to the NBA Finals in each of his first five seasons, securing four NBA championships with the team, and also leading the USA Basketball team to Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He mentioned that he would meet with Warriors owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy to chart the path forward.
“We’ll talk about what’s next for the Warriors, what the plan is for this offseason,” Kerr said. “And we’ll come to a joint decision about what’s next. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I still love coaching. But I understand it. All these jobs have an expiration date. There’s a run that happens, and when the run is over, sometimes it’s time for fresh blood, new ideas, and all that.”
