Generous Gesture from German Internationals: Fans to be Delighted in an Unprecedented Way
Therefore, they won't have to worry about the criticized high travel costs, as they'll get to the New Jersey arena for free from downtown New York. A regular train ticket typically costs under $13, but during the World Cup, the price had "skyrocketed" to $98.
Fans will be particularly pleased by this news, especially since authorities recently announced a fare of up to $150 for the aforementioned train. Shuttle bus ticket prices, which initially stood at $80, have since dropped to $20. Local municipalities had increased prices after FIFA refused to subsidize fan transportation costs.
"Given the high costs of bus and train travel in New York during the World Cup, the German national team will organize free transportation for 600 fans to the final group stage match," announced the German Football Association (DFB).
"Captain Joshua Kimmich and his teammates are covering the costs for buses that will transport fans from New York to the arena in New Jersey for the match against Ecuador," stated the declaration from one of the co-favorites to win the world title.
At the World Cups in Russia and Qatar, free transportation was available for fans to matches and fan zones. In the 2018 agreement to host the World Cup, the Americans pledged to offer the same benefit, but later decided that fans would pay for their travel. This led to a temporary significant increase in prices before the World Cup.
