Furious Kylian Mbappé Receives Support from French Federation: 'Utterly Despicable and Unacceptable'

Kylian Mbappé has received support from the French Football Federation at the World Cup. The star player lashed out on social media at a Paraguayan politician who made racist remarks after the Round of 16 match between Paraguay and France. In an official statement, the French federation also issued strong words towards 61-year-old Celeste Amarilla.

The condemnation from the French Football Federation is unequivocal. In no uncertain terms, the Paraguayan woman faces strong criticism. "The racist remarks made by the senator against Kylian Mbappé are utterly despicable and unacceptable. How can such a speech be delivered? This is criminal and reprehensible. These words must be prosecuted here and everywhere. The federation is involving the public prosecutor's office with a view to legal action," the statement reads.

Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla, 61, had stated after the match that Mbappé 'sucked on coconuts' instead of his mother's breast and that 'chimpanzees were the most intelligent thing Mbappé had ever heard in his life'. The French star forward then took to social media to label her a 'despicable woman'. The French federation stands firmly behind the team's captain.

'Our entire country is insulted'

"The federation offers its full support to its captain, the other players, and more generally to all victims of such abhorrent statements. More than ever, the federation is committed to combating racism and all forms of discrimination. This is a disgrace to those who utter them and those who spread them. The players of the French team represent France. It is our entire country that is being insulted."

France defeated Paraguay 1-0 in a hard-fought encounter. The South American players did everything to disrupt the French, not shying away from fouls. However, the referee rarely intervened and did not even issue a single yellow card to any Paraguayan player. In the quarter-finals, France, with Mbappé, will now face Morocco.
