France is Not the USA: Star Striker's Card Stands

The yellow card received by French footballer Michael Olise in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay remains valid. "Les Bleus" were unsuccessful in their appeal, announced national team coach Didier Deschamps.

Deschamps announced at a press conference ahead of Thursday's quarter-final clash against Morocco that he received the relevant decision from FIFA on Wednesday morning. If Olise receives another yellow card in the match against the North African opponent, he will be ineligible to play in a potential semi-final.

France considered the yellow card Olise received in stoppage time during the emotional Round of 16 match against Paraguay (1-0) to be unwarranted. Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev faced sharp criticism from several football experts for his performance after the game in Philadelphia.

The French Football Federation (FFF) had hoped for a successful appeal, especially given the recent controversial case of American forward Folarin Balogun. FIFA had overturned his suspension after a red card in the Round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, allowing him to play in the USA's 4-1 loss to Belgium in the World Cup Round of 16.
