Hrgović spent the majority of the fight on the back foot, but then unleashed a flurry of punches to knock out Itauma on his home turf.

However, even after defeating the Briton and becoming the new champion, Filip didn't earn more from this fight than his opponent.

According to British media reports, the total purse for this bout was £2.2 million, or €2.6 million. However, the earnings were not distributed based on the fight's outcome, as both fighters had agreed upon their fees beforehand. Based on this information, Itauma reportedly earned £1.5 million, while Hrgović will return from London with the championship belt and £700,000, or approximately €820,000.

It's worth noting that these figures have not been officially confirmed, but they have been reported by reputable publications, making the chance of an error quite slim.

How Filip Hrgović Became a World Champion

Filip, fighting on enemy territory in a hostile atmosphere, knocked out the previously undefeated Briton Moses Itauma in the ninth round, handing him the first loss of his career.

Itauma started the match stronger, showing more aggression and quickly imposing his rhythm. This gave the Briton confidence and a significant advantage, leading to him knocking Hrgović down in the second round. However, the Croatian managed to get back on his feet before the referee counted to ten, and the fight continued.

Although no longer knocked down, Filip remained on the defensive until the end of the sixth round. However, as the seventh round began, the first signs of fatigue started to appear on the British boxer, who had finished all 14 of his previous career fights within the first six rounds.

As the championship bout progressed, Hrgović realized he had to go all-in, as he had no chance of winning against Itauma on points. This aggressive approach ultimately paid off, as he knocked out the home crowd's favorite in the ninth round.

With a series of blows that forced referee Foster to stop the fight, Filip Hrgović became the IBF World Heavyweight Champion.
