Even Surgery Couldn't Stop Him: England to Retain Henderson's Leadership

England international Jordan Henderson underwent hand surgery after an unusual injury. He sustained it following the 3-2 victory over Mexico in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16, when he fell over advertising hoardings during post-match celebrations at the Azteca Stadium.

The 36-year-old Brentford midfielder was stretchered off the field and subsequently transported to the hospital. He is likely to miss the remainder of the World Cup but is expected to stay with the squad at their Kansas City base.

“The operation went well. Now, let's prepare for the big game on Saturday. I want to thank all the staff at the Kansas City Orthopedic Institute for their care, especially the three surgeons who operated on me,” Henderson posted on social media.

England is set to face Norway in a quarter-final clash in Miami on Saturday at 11:00 PM CET.
