Final Preview
This Saturday, the entire nation will be rooting for Angelina Topić at the European Championships in Birmingham!
Angelina Topić has captured the hearts of all of Serbia with her immense courage and fierce determination in every competition.
Officially named Serbia's best female athlete in 2025, she effortlessly advanced to the medal round of the European High Jump Championships. In her first attempt in Birmingham, she cleared the qualifying standard of 1.91 meters, conserving energy for the final.
The grand final is scheduled for this Saturday at 9:07 PM, and the entire nation will be cheering on their beloved athlete throughout the event.
How Did the Qualifiers Go?
Thursday morning at Alexander Stadium was scorching during the high jump qualifiers. The temperature was 32 degrees Celsius, and by the time the athletes were jumping, it had climbed to 36 degrees.
The Serbian record holder completed four successful jumps. Topić cleared 1.80m on her first attempt, 1.84m on her second, 1.88m on her third, and finally 1.91m, which was the qualifying mark for the final.
Ultimately, a total of 15 competitors cleared 1.91m, and all the favorites advanced, including Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh, as well as world silver medalist, Poland's Jozdik.
Angelina: I Needed to Wake Up
After securing her spot in the final, Angelina Topić expressed satisfaction but highlighted the challenging conditions in Birmingham. Although her performance appeared routine, the Serbian high jump record holder disagreed with that assessment.
It was much more demanding than we anticipated. We thought 1.88m would be enough for the final, but since many girls cleared it, we had to jump 1.91m as well. Fortunately, I had no issues with that height. I think I needed it, to wake myself up a bit. I woke up at 6 AM, and it was very hot today. The most important thing was to survive this; now I'm going to sleep and be fresh for the final.Angelina Topić
Overcoming the high track temperature was extremely challenging:
It was really hot; nobody could have expected this, especially in this part of the world. We struggled, and I'm glad it's finally over so we can get out of the heat. We saw in the forecast that Saturday will be almost completely opposite, and we just hope it doesn't rain, which is not uncommon here. We have to be ready for any situation here, just as it is for me, it is for everyone. Angelina Topić
The young Serbian athlete has a strong chance of winning a medal and is considered one of the favorites:
- I hope so. I'm in good form right now, but judging by my competitors' results, it will be a challenging final.
