Mr. Olu Onemola who is Special Assistant to Senate President Bukola Saraki on New Media, says his principal is yet to formally declare for a presidential run in 2019.
The clarification arrives on the heels of Saraki’s interview with Bloomberg in which he was quoted as saying:“I am consulting and actively considering running for president. I believe I can make the change.”
In a statement sent to Pulse, Onemola said, "considering is not a declaration.”
Onemola added that; “At the appropriate time, the President of the Senate will be specific about his aspiration for 2019. Moreover, undefinedwas 90 percent on the economy, and not politics.
“The President of the Senate has been clear that at the right time, Nigerians will know what his plans are.”
Impeachment moves
Saraki recently made the switch from the governing APC to the PDP. The APC has ramped up moves to since his defection.
Saraki is one of a handful of big name politicians in the PDP eyeing the Nigerian presidency in 2019. Others are Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, Ahmed Makarfi and Ibrahim Dankwambo.
The two major political parties--PDP and APC--have zoned the presidency to the north of Nigeria. The PDP holds its presidential primary election in the first week of October.
