Ambrose was expected to be one of the over-ageplayers in Samson Siasia’s squad for the football event of Rio 2016 but the defensive injury crises at Celtic has stopped that from happening.

According to Daily Mail, Celtic defenders, Croatia’s Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata are likely to miss the start of the Scottish Premiership season.

With these developments, Rodgers has decided to hold on to Ambrose despite his wish to play in the Olympic Games.

Clubs have no obligation to release their players for the Olympic Games according to FIFA regulations and Celtic are willing to exercise their right.
