Eddie Hearn Adamant Dana White Will Not Be Involved in Fury-Joshua Promotion
Eddie Hearn has achieved his goal: the highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is officially set to take place in the UK. The two boxing titans have agreed to meet on December 11th in Cardiff, United Kingdom. It appears no one is more pleased with this outcome than Matchroom Boxing President, Eddie Hearn.
Hearn has been embroiled in a public spat with UFC CEO Dana White regarding the date and venue for this monumental fight. In recent weeks, it seemed the entire deal might collapse. However, a surprising agreement has been reached, and Joshua and Fury will finally face off this December in the UK – the location Hearn consistently championed as the rightful host.
“Dana White told everyone he was promoting the show, that he was bringing the fight to America, that he knew the venue. Obviously, we know that didn't happen. Dana White cannot be involved in this fight. Netflix clearly didn't understand. No one is talking to each other. I'm talking to the Saudis, Dana White isn't involved in the fight, and Netflix says: 'the fight is in collaboration with Dana White.' But as I showed with the UK fight, which we won, we are sticking to our contract, and he cannot be involved,” Hearn added.
Hearn claims White did everything in his power to bring the fight to Madison Square Garden in New York. Ultimately, however, all parties involved in the organization had to concede that the Joshua vs. Fury bout belonged in the UK.
“Essentially, they downplayed it, they gave up, they did everything they could to bring this fight to America,” Hearn stated. “When I told them again that it wasn't going to happen, they backed down.”
White has yet to comment on the fight since its announcement on Thursday. However, Hearn certainly feels he deserves a victory lap after months of promising that the UFC boss would not be involved in the fight's organization.
Hearn is now solidifying this fact as he celebrates the finalization of the Joshua vs. Fury deal for December in the United Kingdom.
“You lost,” Hearn declared, addressing White. “You did everything to bring this fight to America and rob British boxing fans. Give up, son.”
