Dutch Striker Voted Player of the Season by Premier League Club Fans: 'Your Support Has Always Been Unwavering'
Burnley supporters have voted Flemming as their Player of the Season. The 27-year-old forward finished as the relegated side's top scorer, netting ten league goals and one cup goal. Flemming was on the scoresheet just last weekend in Burnley's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, making him the first Burnley player in five years to score ten or more goals in a Premier League season. He was also named 'Man of the Match' in that fixture.
Player of the Year
Now, he can add another impressive individual accolade to his name. "I want to thank all the supporters who voted for me," Flemming stated on Burnley's official website. "Your support has always been unwavering, and it was clearly audible every time I stepped onto the pitch, whether at Turf Moor or anywhere else in the country. Of course, the season didn't go as we had hoped, but I enjoyed testing myself at Premier League level for the first time."
Flemming previously played in the Netherlands for Jong Ajax, PEC Zwolle, NEC, and Fortuna Sittard. Fellow Dutchman Quilindschy Hartman also plays for 'The Clarets'. With two matches remaining, Burnley currently sit in nineteenth place in the Premier League.
An Option for Koeman
Flemming's performances in the Premier League this past season have certainly caught the eye. As a result, the striker is now considered a potential option for national team coach Ronald Koeman for the upcoming World Cup this summer. Many Dutch strikers are currently out of form, such as Wout Weghorst and Joshua Zirkzee, or are struggling with fitness issues, like Memphis Depay and Emanuel Emegha.
