The family of slain Nigerian defender
Gombe United defender Uzama was shot dead by suspected cultist in Benin on Thursday, December 29.
Uzama who was in Benin for the Christmas and New Year holiday was out with friends when he was gunned down by the suspected cultists.
According to , his family is considering taking legal action against the NFF in a bid to recover the reported N3m the national body owed the deceased.
The defender also represented Nigeria at the 2015 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Niger and also a member of the squad that failed to qualify for the 2017 Under-20 African Cup of Nations.
The father of the defender, Jacob Uzama, wants the NFF to pay his son’s entitlement to enable the family take of the child the player left behind.
According to the family, the player had made several attempts to get his entitlements without success.
“The family is not happy with the NFF at all. They are very sad because the boy was the breadwinner of the family since he is dead there is little they can do to take care of the child he left behind,” a family source told Punch.
“We have yet to receive a single letter of condolence from them (NFF) not to talk of Douglas’ entitlements.”
The family is now ready to seek legal advice on the issue.
NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire could not be reached by Pulse Sports but he has told Punch that the NFF has sent a condolence letter to the family which has not gotten to them.
He, however, could not confirm if the player was being owed.
