Ibrahima Ba has joined Sporting, with his official announcement not contingent on Ousmane Diomande's transfer, even though the Lions moved for the Senegalese defender from Famalicão to replace the Ivorian, who is set to join Nottingham Forest. Ba arrives at Alvalade for €20 million, while Diomande's departure will net €40 million. This covers Ba's acquisition and leaves funds for a new left-back to replace Ricardo Mangas, who is traveling to Italy this morning to play for Monza.

Sporting's management wasted no time. Even before the 22-year-old defender's transfer to the Premier League club was finalized, they acted on their long-standing list of potential defensive replacements. As A BOLA reported in May, the Famalicão player was at the top of that list. Sporting paid €20 million and will receive €40 million, leaving a surplus of another €20 million. This amount will be invested in an additional reinforcement: a left-back to fill the void left by Mangas.

The Portuguese player is heading to Italy under an agreement that initially involves a loan with a mandatory purchase clause in 2027. The deal is valued at €1.5 million fixed, with an additional €300,000 in variables. Interestingly, these bonus figures are slightly less than what Sporting paid Spartak Moscow a year ago to sign the full-back.

The Lions will now invest further in a replacement. They seek a player with higher market value, capable of naturally stepping in for Maxi Araújo when the Uruguayan is unavailable or when he's deployed in a more advanced role on the left wing, as he does for the national team. This move also considers the future, allowing the new signing to gain experience and potentially take over the position when Maxi eventually departs.

Diomande's transfer funds haven't arrived yet but are expected by Saturday. The 5 Violins Trophy will be held at Alvalade that day, and the Ivorian is unlikely to be presented, as he's bound for Forest. The deal is reportedly around €40 million, but payment terms and bonus stratification still need to be finalized. This is expected to happen in the coming hours, before the center-back heads to England.
