Former Super Eagles midfielder, Dickson Etuhu has been cleared of assault charges after being arrested for fighting security guards and police officers in Sweden.

Etuhu now plays for ALK, based in Stockholm in Sweden was arrested after allegedly being involved in a scuffle with security guards and police officers outside a night club in November.

A district court in Stockholm, Sweden cleared the 33-year-old of all assault charges stemming from that fight in November.

The court stated that the player was not involved in any act of violence against the officials and was only being protective and defensive in nature.

“This is great news. It is clear that it is good that he will be acquitted,” AIK Sporting Director, Björn Wesström told SportExpressed.se.

“Since there is reason to discuss the situation in view of the events that led to this, we’ll have a meeting.”

Etuhu spent 14 years playing in England with the likes of Sunderland, Fulham and Nowich.

The 33-year-old midfielder first played for the Super Eagles in 2007 and went on to represent Nigeria in two Africa Cup of Nations (2008 and 2010) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
