Marc Cucurella resides in Horsham, West Sussex (at least until his anticipated move to Real Madrid), a town situated almost equidistant between Brighton and Chelsea, the two Premier League clubs he has represented. Upon returning home, he became the subject of a heartwarming local story.
The local tourism initiative, Visit Horsham, shared that Cucurella allowed his postman, Gary, to briefly hold his 2026 World Cup winner's medal. Gary recounted the experience.
“I had the pleasure of chatting with local world champion, Marc Cucurella, while delivering his mail. He’s a very friendly and approachable guy. He even let me hold his winner’s medal,” Gary stated. The community page also posted photos of Gary with the medal and another alongside the Chelsea player.
Gary, with typical English wit, also took a playful jab at the England national team, who have only won one World Cup in their history – on home soil in 1966 (eliminating Portugal in the semi-finals): “I think I’m the first Englishman to hold a World Cup winner’s medal in 60 years.”
