Injury concern for South Africa's Philander

South Africa's Vernon Philander injured his ankle during a warm-up session on Thursday, putting him in doubt for the second Test against India.

The opening bowler appeared to twist his left ankle during a game of football as the Proteas warmed up for training, two days prior to the start of the clash in Bangalore.

Philander was seen limping in clear discomfort, before being carried from the field by three members of South Africa's backroom staff.

"He fell awkwardly on his left ankle during warm-ups. Has been taken for scans for further assessment," Cricket South Africa posted on Twitter.

"More information will be available once the scan results have been confirmed."

The news is a major concern for the tourists, with premier paceman Dale Steyn struggling with a groin injury which prevented him from bowling in India's second innings in the first Test, which the hosts won by 108 runs.
