Columbus Blue Jackets beat Carolina Hurricanes, St Louis Blues

Columbus fielded split squads against the Carolina Hurricanes and St Louis Blues, and both emerged triumphant.

The team in Carolina were 4-3 winners over the Hurricanes.

Cam Atkinson scored twice for the Blue Jackets, while Nick Foligno and Mike Hoeffel were also on target for the Columbus franchise, who reached the play-offs last season only to lose to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan Division semi-final.

Anton Forsberg made 29 saves for the Blue Jackets.

In Columbus, the other Blue Jackets team edged the Blues 4-3 in overtime.

Dillon Heatherington was the hero, scoring from the blue line to give the Blue Jackets victory.

Blue Jackets goalkeeper Curtis McElhinney saved 23 of 24 shots.

The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers also fielded split teams as they went head-to-head on Sunday.

Calgary shutout the Oilers 1-0 in game one, with TJ Brodie scoring from a powerplay in the second period.

Edmonton took the honours in the following encounter, Ben Scrivens making 14 saves as the Oilers beat the Flames 3-1.

The Washington Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres 1-0.
