Akpom who joined Arsenal at the age of six just recovered from a back injury he suffered in September 2016.
This season, the 21-year-forward has made only one senior appearance for Arsenal senior side which was their 4-0 win at Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
He has played 10 times for Arsenal's first team in total.

To continue his progress, Akpom heads to the Championship once again, this time to join leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Nigerian-born forward has experience playing in the Championship having spent the whole of 2015/16 season with Hull City.
He scored seven goals in 42 games on loan at Hull City last season, helping the Tigers secure promotion back to the Premier League.
After signing for the Chris Hughton side, Akpom is looking forward to joining his new teammates and play in the club’s 4-4-2 formation.
“It’s always good to play with another striker, you can bounce off each other and there’s more support than usual. There’s always going to be competition and it keeps the team strong,” he is quoted to say by the club’s official website.
“They’re all experienced players and they know how to play in this league. It’s going to be good to learn from them, and we’ve all got something different to offer.
“The main thing for me now is impress the boss here and show my teammates and the fans what I can do. That's my main aim.
“It’s a good club and everyone knows the Championship is a tough league with a lot of games, as it’s very competitive and unpredictable. In this division you just have to get your head down and take each game as it comes.
“The team is flying high sitting top of the league and you can see that they’ve got the winning mentality and are playing the right football. I just want to be a positive addition to the team and help boost the side to promotion."
Akpom has also had spells in League One with Brentford and Coventry and with Nottingham Forest in the Championship
A England youth international but eligible to still play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Akpom is yet to make a decision on his international career.
