Back in the 90s, "Checkmate" offered lots of memorable characters, and that is just one of the many reasons why the TV series is implanted in the hearts of many.

For years, the TV show offered a delicious brew of storylines, interpreted by a diverse and dynamic cast such as Ego Boyo, Richard Mofe Damijo, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Nobert Young, Mildred Iweka, Kunle Bamtefa, Bimbo Odulaja and the late Francis Agu.

On her sick father's request, Ann Haatrope returns to Lagos from America with her brother Richie to save the family's business, Haatrope Investment, which is managed by their older brother, Benny.

According to the late Amaka Igwe, who created the show, the classic TV show was inspired by 'Mirror in the Sun.'
